Slovak Tourist Board is an organisation receiving contributions from the State Budget specialised on marketing and state promotion of tourism in the Slovak Republic. It was established in 1995 by the Ministry of Economy. It markets tourism at the national level, provides information on travel opportunities in Slovakia, promotes Slovakia as a travel destination, contributes to creation of a positive image of Slovakia abroad and supports the sale of travel products of the Slovak Republic. SACR has been authorised to officially represent the country abroad and establish detached offices both at home and abroad.
By means of Decree 678/2002 of the Government of the SR to “Information on the Current State of Provision of a Functional Structure of Paid Management, Control and Implementation Bodies for the Sector Operating Programme – Economic Development“ approved by the advisory meeting of the management of the Ministry of Economy of the SR under number 18-19-02, the Slovak Tourist Board was appointed the Mediatory Body under the Managing Body of the Sector Operating Programme “Industry and Services" in order to ensure implementation of travel projects, while the managing body was the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic.
By means of the Agreement on Power of Attorney concluded by and between the Ministry of Economy of the SR and SACR on 10 March 2004 and under amendments thereto, the Managing Body has delegated to SACR powers to implement the European Union programmes for the public and business sectors, as well as to implement the programmes of the Ministry of Economy and the Government of the Slovak Republic in the field of the development of tourism.
On 1 July 2010, Act No. 37/2010 Coll. to amend Act No. 575/2001 Coll. on organisation of activities of the Government and central state administration bodies as amended, came to force and effect. On the effective date thereof, competencies in the field of tourism passed from the Ministry of Economy of the SR to a new state administration body of tourism, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the SR. At the same time, the Slovak Tourist Board as an institution receiving contributions from the State Budget passed under the competence of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the SR.
On 1 November 2010, Act No. 403/2010 Coll. to amend Act No. 575/2001 Coll. on organisation of activities of the Government and central state administration bodies as amended, came to force and effect. On the effective date thereof, competencies in the field of tourism passed from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the SR to a new state administration body of tourism, the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the SR. At the same time, the Slovak Tourist Board (SACR) as an institution receiving contributions from the State Budget passed under the competence of the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the SR.
